April Showers Bring May Flowers?

Tuesday, April 19, 2016 Unknown 0 Comments

Today I have a mani that I did over the weekend to share with you! I wanted to do something light and springy feeling to get me out of this winter funk I've been in for like the last eight months. It's finally started to get warm here! Finally! Don't ever leave me again, Spring.

For this mani I used Different Dimension Ara as my base color which I then topped with two coats of Baroness X Doomfire. I topped off this mani with some stamping using Hit the Bottle Snowed In (can be purchased in the United States at Beautometry) and Bundle Monster BM-XL209. I love the way this turned out and I am utterly obsessed with Doomfire. Seriously, it looks amazing on everything. The unfortunate part for you is that it's an exclusive polish to the Baroness X fan group on facebook. The good news is that you can either join the facebook group and wait for it to be restocked oooooooor you can purchase Dulcinea which is just Doomfire with some pretty flakies.

Those first two pictures were taken last night in my light box with my Nikon. I prefer to use that camera over my cell phone since the quality of photos is so much better, but I'll use my cell phone in a pinch sometimes (you can tell by my watermark font if it was taken on my cell lol). Like I did today so that I could capture that crazy holo and shimmer in the sunlight that I just couldn't get in the light box last night. Since I didn't have my camera on me at work, here's a cell shot of how gorgeous this looks in sunlight.

What do you think of this mani? As you can see it definitely pulls much more toward the purple of Doomfire out on the sunlight. Indoors in the light box I feel like the pale blue of Ara shines through just a bit more.

Le Polish: Love Your Mother (Earth) Collection

Friday, April 15, 2016 Unknown 0 Comments

Hey guys! Today I have a few of the polishes from the le polish Love Your Mother (Earth) Collection. First, let me say how excited I am about the theme because it totally appeals to my nerdy side. I am a HUGE fan of Greek mythology. There are four polishes in this collection: Gaia, Rhea, Demeter, and Persephone. I have Demeter and Persephone for you today. Which is perfect because the two of them are so closely intertwined.

Let's start with Demeter, goddess of the harvest and fertility of the earth as well as the mother to Persephone. This is a spring green crelly filled with various shaped pink and gold holo glitters and pink micro flakies. Application was smooth with this one, but it leans on the sheer side. I still had some visible nail line with three coats. Full opacity was achieved at four coats. I'd suggest using undies with this one if that many coats bothers you. It does give the polish a lovely depth though. Shown here is four coats with a top coat of Seche Vite. It only took one coat to achieve a smooth finish. Not a top coat eater.

Next we have Persephone, Queen of the lower world and the dead and maiden of the spring. This is a fiery orange crelly with hex teal glitter, gold flakes, and purple micro flakes. Application was smooth with this one as well and this one is a more opaque than Demeter. This is three coats with a top coat of Seche Vite. This one did take two top coats to smooth out to my satisfaction though. I need it totally smooth. Snagging on stuff drives me crazy!

I'll  be totally honest, I loved both of these the minute I opened the package, but I was worried that they weren't going to play nice with my skin tone because oranges and greens are super finicky on me. All those fears faded when I actually got them on. They're both gorgeous and have a lovely depth to them and successfully have reminded me why I love glitter crellies. The addition of the micro flakes just adds another subtle layer of depth.

Price: Full size (15ml) $10 ea./$38.50 collection | Mini size (7.5ml) $6 ea./$23.25 collection

WingDust: Beach Bum & Summer Storm

Sunday, April 03, 2016 Unknown 0 Comments

Today I have a couple of WingDust polishes for you! I didn't link to her Etsy shop because she's currently in the middle of moving, so it's best to keep an eye on her Facebook page for updates on the new shop! I bought both of these polishes well over a year ago, but as much as I've worn Beach Bum (it's half empty!) I've never gotten around to taking any pictures of it! Let's start with that one...

Beach Bum is a fuchsia crelly packed with various pink and holographic glitters and blue micro flake shimmer. This polish tends to be a little more jelly than cream, but application is fairly smooth for so much glitter. I did have to do some fishing, but that honestly is probably just because of how low my bottle has gotten. This polish is kind of sheer (visible nail line at three coats), so I decided to use an undie with it (a custom Anonymous Lacquer, sorry y'all. It's not available for sale - but go check out some of her other stuff!). This is two coats of Beach Bum over my undies topped with two coats of Seche Vite for smoothness.

Summer Storm is a gray crelly packed with various pink purple and holographic glitters and iridescent micro flakes. This one is more cream than jelly and has better opacity because of that. No undies needed for this one. Application was nice and smooth with minimal fishing (those bigger glitters can be tricky). Shown below is three coats topped with two coats of Seche Vite for smoothness.

I think both of these are gorgeous and WingDust has some of the most gorgeous polishes in my opinion. They all have this beautiful, subtle shimmer that isn't really caught in photos unless you get a macro shot. What's your favorite WingDust? Let us know in the comments!
