For The Love Of Polish Box: July 2017

Friday, July 07, 2017 Unknown 1 Comments

Hey guys! Today I've got the July 2017 For The Love Of Polish Box to show you! If you aren't familiar with this box it's a monthly box that includes a trio of polishes. Polished for Days and Illyrian Polish are the two permanent brands in this box and this month's guest is Tonic Polish! The theme for July is honestly one of my favorite themes for anything: the galaxy! I have to say, everyone knocked it out of the park with their contributions to this box! They're all so gorgeous! Without further adieu let's see those swatches!

Milky Way is the Polished for Days contribution and it's a bright navy base with a strong copper shimmer and red micro flakes. This polish definitely looks more purple (which suits me perfectly - give me ALL the purples!) on than navy due to the shimmer and flakies.  Application was flawless and this polish is easily opaque in two coats. I did three because that's my comfort zone, but two is quite sufficient. Shown below is three coats with a glossy top coat.

Owl Nebula is the Illyrian Polish in this box and it's a teal base with a strong teal to purple to green shift and a micro holographic sparkle. You guys... this polish is reminds me perfectly of this cover photo I used on facebook ages ago. The second photo really captures all the shifts this goes through. Application with this one was again, flawless and opaque in two coats. Like I said before, I personally prefer three because I feel it gives the color more depth. Shown below is three coats with a glossy top coat.

Quasi Stellar is the Tonic Polish contribution to this and it's a bright purple base with a strong blue to purple shifting base and holographic micro flakies. This polish really gives me an icy vibe for some reason. I think it's the glowing blue shimmer throughout it. If you're familiar with Tonic you know that Lindsey's formula tends to be a bit on the thicker side. Application was easy though, with full coverage in two coats. Shown below is three coats with a glossy top coat (Tonic Topper - it's what I used for all these and highly recommend).

Soooooooo, whatcha think? It is not a gorgeous trio?! These are all so beautiful it's hard to pick a favorite! Let's get down to release details:

Potion Polish: Vintage

Friday, June 23, 2017 Unknown 1 Comments

Hey guys! So we're back today with a new to me brand! I've got the Potion Polish limited edition "Potion of the Month" for June to show you! If you're a lover of crellies, flakies, and/or shimmer then you're gonna love this one since it's got a little bit of all that!

Vintage is a creamy turquoise with pink to gold to green multichrome flakies and a pink to gold shifting shimmer. The formula on this one is amazing - silky smooth easy application with full opacity in two coats. This could probably be a one coater for the heavy handed. I tend to work in thinner coats though so I needed two. I did a third just for extra depth cuz y'all know how much I love that third coat. ;) Shown below is three (thin!) coats with a glossy top coat.

Vintage (light box with daylight bulbs)
You can see how subtle the shimmer is in brighter lighting, it's visible in the above photo but not in your face visible. I decided to use the below photo in a darker lighting so that you could really see that shimmer pop. In the right lighting it's so amazingly gorgeous and I had to include one that really showed it off like it deserves.

Vintage (light box, daylight bulbs - low lighting)

So like I said earlier in the post, this is my first time trying Potion Polish and I gotta say I was definitely impressed! The formula on this was excellent and it applied so nicely. Also and this is absolutely irrelevant to the polish, but the website is super cute. The design nerd in me wholeheartedly approves. Anyway! That being said let's get down to release details:

When: Saturday, June 24th at 1PM ET
Price: $10.50

Baroness X: Shift in Space-Time Collection

Saturday, June 17, 2017 Unknown 1 Comments

Hey y'all! It's been a while! Today I've got the Baroness X Shift in Space-Time Collection! This collection is inspired by the movie Interstellar so it's all about shifting space-time, black holes, the 4th dimension and small details from the movie. It's a shimmery and shifty collection that's absolutely gorgeous! Let's get to the swatches!

Event Horizon is a black jelly filled with gold to green to blue pegasus pee, metallic gold flakies, and two different types of green and blue iridescent flakies. Easy formula to work with but based on the nature of jellies wait for each layer to dry before doing the next. This is fully opaque in two coats, but if you're a regular reader here you know I have preference for three coats. Shown below is three coats with a glossy top coat.

Gargantua is a purple jelly with a scattered holo and a metallic copper shimmer. Like Event Horizon it's best to wait for each layer to dry before doing the next. This one is a bit more sheer so you may (probably - unless you do like, super thick coats) need three coats for opacity. Shown below is three coats with a glossy top coat. I know there appears to be a bit of visible nail line in the photos but that was not noticeable to the naked eye.

Gargantua (indoors, light box)

Paradox is a topper that consists of teal to blue to indigo pegasus pee, with pink to green shifting iridescent flakies and a touch of a large particle holo pigment. So this one is one of my favorites in this collection. It is seriously so unassuming in the bottle and then you put it on and BAM! Instant love. Easy application and looks best over dark colors imho, but let your creativity fly man! Shown below is two coats over black with a glossy top coat.

Singularity is a fuchsia jelly based unicorn pee polish. It's meant to be layered over any color and is apparently close to OPI's Movin' Out (I honestly can't give a first hand account of that). This is a super gorgeous color on it's own, but if you're a person that's bothered by visible nail line (ME!) you're gonna have to layer this. I took two sets of photos for this, one on it's own and one layered over a pink cream.

This first set shows Singularity on it's own. This is three coats with a glossy top coat.

So when I was looking for a base I wanted to find the closest pink cream I could to put under it. ... I learned I do not own as many creams as I thought I did. I ended up going with Pipe Dream Polish's Take it Easy and I actually really liked the results even if it wasn't exactly what I wanted. Shown below is two coats over that with a glossy top coat.

Tesseract is a deep teal based multichrome that shifts bright emerald green to teal to blue to a deep (almost purple) indigo with a scatter of holo flakies and holo pigment. This is my other favorite in the collection and I credit that to it being a new combination of shifts in my multichrome collection. I literally don't have another like it and I have TONS of multichromes. Formula is silky smooth and it's fully opaque in two coats. Shown below is three coats (more depth!) with a glossy top coat.

Ghost of a Space Cowboy is the limited edition that's only available with the purchase of the full size collection. It's a dark gray based multichrome with iridescent pink to green flakies and shifts from teal to purple to pink to gold and finally green. Easy formula and fully opaque in two coats. Shown below is three coats with a glossy top coat.

Soooooo, what do you guys think?! Super gorgeous, right? Like I said earlier, I think Paradox and Tesseract are my favorites, but Ghost of a Space Cowboy is a close third. Honestly, the whole collection is beautiful so it's hard to choose favorites. lol Let's get down to release details:

When: Saturday, June 17th, 2017 (TODAY!!!) at 12PM PT/3PM ET
Prices:
Full Size Collection including Ghost of a Space Cowboy $65 (40 sets available)
Mini Size (8ml - Ghost of Space Cowboy not included) Collection $35
Event Horizon $13
Gargantua $11
Paradox $13
Tesseract $12
Singularity $14

This is going to be a pre-order with shipping beginning July 1st (BX is on vacation 6/19-6/30), but orders will be filled in first come, first serve with what is already pre-made (about 2 batches of each polish). I'm just going to reiterate that Ghost of a Space Cowboy is only available with the purchase of the full size set and there are limited amounts. If you want it, snag it now!

Tonic Polish: Spring 2017 Collection, May Babies Duo, & Femme Fatale Collab

Monday, May 08, 2017 Unknown 0 Comments

Hey y'all! I'm a day late with this one, but today I've got a ton of swatches from Tonic Polish restock that happened yesterday. So while I might be a day late I do have some good news! At the time of writing this everything is still in stock! So without further adieu let's get on with the swatches for the 2017 Spring Collection, May Babies Duo, and the Tonic half of the Femme Fatale Duo.

First up is the 2017 Spring Collection!

Aurora Sunrise is an orchid leaning pink jelly with a strong turquoise to purple shifting shimmer and ultra holo microglitters. Such a gorgeous, sparkly pink! Tonic Polishes are all on the thicker side (I'm not repeating that for every one), but I don't find this effects my application at all. This was silky smooth application and is opaque in three coats. If you don't mind a teeny tiny bit of visible nail line two coats will suffice for this one. Shown below is three coats finished off with a glossy top coat of Tonic Topper.

Deep Sea-crets is a a bright turquoise cream with a peachy-pink to yellow shifting shimmer. This one reminds me of the crystal clear waters you'd find down in the Caribbean. Silky smooth application and opaque in two coats. This one is a bit of a fast drying one and it dries to a satiny finish. Shown below is three coats finished off with a glossy top coat of Tonic Topper.

Endless Shrimp is a soft coral cream with a pale green shimmer. This shimmer was so freaking hard to capture on camera. This one is just like Deep Sea-crets with being a quick drier and having a satin finish. Easy application and opaque in two coats. Shown below is three coats finished off with a glossy top coat of Tonic Topper.

Foxfire is a metallic rose gold to yellow gold multichrome with a scattered holographic finish. This is such a gorgeous polish. Soft, yet metallic and full of sparkle. Silky smooth application and easily opaque in two coats. Shown below is three coats finished off with a glossy top coat of Tonic Topper.

I Pink You Blue Me Off is a bright blue cream with a pink to yellow shifting shimmer. This is also a quick drying, satiny finisher. Easy application and opaque in two coats. Shown below is three coats finished off with a glossy top coat of Tonic Topper.

Titanium Orchid is a member of the "lumichrome" family, which includes colors like Incandescent, Luminescent, and Greenglow. It's a pale metallic multichrome that shifts from cool lavender to peach to gold with a scattered holographic finish. This has an interestingly delicate, soft feel to it for being a metallic. Silky smooth application and opaque in two coats. Shown below is three coats finished off with a glossy top coat of Tonic Topper.

Okay so that's it for the Spring Collection, let's do the May Babies Duo next! This is in honor of Lindsey's son Nico who turns four in May! His favorite color is green, the May birthstone is the Emerald, and one of their favorite books to read together is "Oh, the Places You'll Go" by Dr. Seuss. This is a limited edition for this release, but they will be making a comeback in the future!

The Places You'll Go is an emerald green base with green to blue to purple to pink to gold shifting multichrome shimmer. This is sheer on the first coat but builds very quickly! This would be opaque enough for some people at two coats, but I preferred three. Excellent application and like I said builds easily to opacity. This is similar to Dragons at Dusk but it's different, I plan on doing a comparison post soon. I'll update this with the link when I do. Shown below is three coats finished off with a glossy top coat of Tonic Topper.

You'll Move Mountains is a beautiful glowing green. That's it. Just a gorgeous, perfectly glowing, emerald green. Easy application and fully opaque in two coats. Shown below is three coats finished off with a glossy top coat of Tonic Topper.

Last, but not least, we have the Tonic half of the Four Seasons Collaboration. This quartet was inspired by Vivaldi's violin concertos and Lindsey and Sophie each chose seasons to model their colors after.

Bleeding Heart Sunset was inspired by the intense, sultry heat of the Summer concerto. It's an orchid-lavender base with a strong, glowing pink multichrome shimmer that shifts from peach to gold with a scattered holo finish.

Promise of Spring was inspired by the fresh, lighthearted playfulness of the Spring concerto. It's a pale metallic yellow-green lumichrome that shifts to mint green and blue with a scattered holo finish. Soft, delicate and easily application that's opaque in two coats. Shown below is three coats finished off with a glossy top coat of Tonic Topper.

Whew! Okay, so that was a ton of gorgeous swatches! These are all beautiful polishes that I'd say would be happy and at home in anyone's collection. Like I said in the beginning of this post, this restock went live yesterday, but everything is still available at the time of posting this. Also, while you're there I'd highly recommend grabbing some Tonic Topper because to be completely honest it's one of my favorites. The "Four Seasons" Collaborations can be found at either the Tonic Website or the Femme Fatale Australian Website.
